Effingham Hometown Christmas

Make plans to come to downtown Effingham to kick off your holiday season at Hometown Christmas, sponsored by the Downtown Effingham Business Group.

Downtown will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the weekend and will be packed full of activities for the young and young at heart.

New to this year's event include Lunch with Santa at Joe's Pizza and a Snow Ball Drop, both taking place on Saturday. Lunch with Santa hours will be announced soon.

The Snowball Drop will take place at 2pm on Saturday, Nov 30th.
Approximately 800 ping-pong balls with store names written on them will be dropped from the air on Washington Ave. After catching the snowballs, participants visit the various shops to claim their coupon, special offer or gifts. This event is free and open to the public.

Ice Skating will return to this year's event and guarantees to delight everyone, from first-time gliders to experienced skaters. Ice skating hours will be Friday 5pm - 9pm, Saturday 12pm - 9pm and Sunday 12pm - 5pm. A nominal fee of $5 per person applies. Ice skates will be available for rent as well.

The official City of Effingham Community Christmas Tree Lighting is moving to Friday evening and will take place on the Old Courthouse Lawn at 5:30 pm.

Additional activities on Friday evening include a 5K Run and a Holiday Open Mic Night at the Gazebo.

Santa will make his grand appearance to downtown on Saturday afternoon. The parade will travel down Jefferson Ave. at 3:50, arriving downtown at 4pm.

In addition to Santa's arrival on Saturday, attendees will also enjoy horse drawn carriage rides, live Christmas music, a visit with Santa, Christmas cookie decorating, children's train rides and other family friendly activities throughout the day.

Hot chocolate, kettle corn, along with food and drinks will be available for sale as well.

The Effingham County Courthouse Museum will be open from 10am - 2pm & the FACE Orchestra and the Presbyterian Church Group, On High, will perform inside the museum from 4:30pm - 6:30pm.
