The City Clerk's office serves as your window to the City Council and City Hall. The Clerk's functions are broad and vital to the operation and welfare of the community. The City Clerk serves as a public information center for local government as well as keeper of the record with regard to official records of the City.
Some of the duties of the City Clerk include:
- In charge and custody of all bonds, contracts, books and papers belonging to the City, both financial and legal.
- Seals and attests all contracts and has supervision of the City debt, obligations, loans, liabilities and other payments of interest.
- Attends all Council Meetings and keeps records of such.
- Exercises general supervision over all officers charged in any manner with the receipt, collection or disbursement of municipal revenue.
- Keeps all ordinances, resolutions and minutes indexed and in safe keeping as well as maintains updated codification of the City ordinances.
- Servces as the City's Human Resource Director in charge of all personnel functions including payroll, insurance and safety, pension, labor relations, employee benefits and documentation of such.
- Oversees the City's general computer operations.
- Serves as the Secretary to the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners.
- Oversees the Treasurer's Office.
- Serves as the City's Americans with Disability Act Coordinator.
- Developes and oversees the City's budget and tax levy.
- Serves as the City's Authorized Agent to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension.
- Is a member of various City boards and commissions.

The City Clerk's Office is supervised by the Commissioner of Accounts and Finances Alan Harris.
