Tours, Speakers and the Children's Safety House
March 21, 2007Dick Kenter - Public Information Officer
As a public service, the Effingham Fire Department offers free tours of its stations and trucks, as well as provides speakers who will visit your club or school and present information about fire safety. We are also pleased to offer special events such as a visit from the “Children’s Safety House” to your school. We may under many circumstances provide a fire truck for your parade or charity event! For further information or to schedule events call Dick Kenter at 342-2555.
Requesting a Tour or Speaker: We require that you make a reservation, preferably at least two weeks in advance. Tours are given by on-duty firefighters who may be subject to calls. We cannot guarantee that your tour will not be interrupted or cut short. All children’s groups must be escorted by responsible adult(s). We request that group size be limited to 40 people. Tours may be scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., however any reservation is subject to EFD's schedule constraints.
The Children’s Safety House: This is a specially built mobile house. In it children are taught essential survival and escape skills in the event of a fire in the home. This is a great educational program and is available to any school or organizations within Effingham County. Any organization outside City limits must use the house at the Central station in Effingham. Please contact Effingham Fire Department for further information.
