EFFINGHAM CITY COUNCIL
COMMISSIONER MERV GILLENWATER
Merv Gillenwater was elected Commissioner of Public Health and Safety in 2007. His staff includes Joe Holomy, Effingham City Fire Chief, and Phil Simmons, Effingham City Water Department Director.
Merv has a bachelor of science in Business and is a retired Lieutenant Commander of the Illinois State Police. He has served as an adjunct instructor at Lake Land College for three years. He is also a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.
Merv resides at 401 Brookhill Terrace with his wife, Patricia. They have a son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law, Susan.

It is my goal to work with the other council members to continue to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Effingham in a prudent and fiscally responsible manner.
