Effingham Sports Center

The Project:
The Effingham City Council is moving forward with plans to construct a 63,654-square-foot sports complex that will house an eight-lane competivie pool and a multi-sports court area. The proposed sports facility will be located on 22 acres of land on the northeast side of the City, northeast of Evergreen Hollow Park and southeast of the former YMCA facility. The outdoor area will provide recreational opportunies for residents and guests, including three soccer fields, an event area, and a water feature. The facility will not only attract sports clubs, regional competitions, and regional visitors to the City, but it will also serve as a facility for resdients of all ages.
Benefits:
Although quality-of-life benefits for residents is a factor in the construction of the facility, project supporters believe the Sports Center wil play an even larger role in the community. The Sports Center will open the door for economic development in the City, including attracting new businesses and increasing tourism. Hotels, restaurants, retail stores and fuel stations will benefit from the Sports Center. The Effingham Sports Center will be a win for the entire region.
Funding:
The project will be funded through the City of Effingham's Hotel/Motel Tax Fund and from Tax Increment Finance Funds. The City will not use Property Tax Funds or General Sales Tax Funds toward this project.
