The City of Effingham Water Department is the provider of water service to residents in the City of Effingham. Its office is on the first floor in the City Hall at 201 E. Jefferson Avenue. All applications for water service, payment of bills and questions regarding service must be made through this office.

The City of Effingham's primary source of water is the Wabash River. The City's filtration plant is located on Route 40 West. The water filtration plant pumps and treats approximately 2.5 million gallons of water a day and has the capacity for 6 million gallons a day. The Water Department bills approximately 4,700 customers for water service on a monthly basis.

Application for connection should be made in person (signature required) at the Water Department office. There is a service fee of $25.00 for a connect.

Deposits are required for rental properties. This fee is $50.00 for residential and $100.00 for commercial rental properties.
