Community Development

The City of Effingham continues to work with existing and new companies to provide assistance and support for any needs they may have. So far this year, business activity is taking place throughout the community with several more projects slated to start this year. Interest in Effingham has been picking up and an improvement in the economy has allowed companies to increase employment and projects.

Some projects underway or soon to be starting construction would include the following:

MEIJER - Meijer has announced plans to build a 150,000 s.f. store located next to Kohl's. Roadway improvements are scheduled to commence this year.

ABBOTT AMBULANCE - Abbot ambulance has completed the construction of a new building located on North Third Street.

HSHS ST. ANTHONY'S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT- HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital has completed a remodel their Emergency Department, including a new registration desk, triage area, waiting room, and creating all private exam rooms.

DOMINOS - Domino's has relocated into a newly construction building along Fayette Avenue.

HEARTLAND TOWING - Heartland Towing has moved into their newly built facility located on East Evergreen Avenue.

RMC STADIUM CINEMAS - RMC Stadium Cinemas has purchased a portion of the Village Square Mall and has begun to remodel and expand. The completed project will feature ten luxury seating auditoriums and an expanded concession area offering hot foods. Updates will be made to the entrance, hallways, restrooms, and lighting. 

BECK'S SUPERIOR HYBRIDS - Beck's Superior Hybrids built a new 50,000 sq. ft. building to be used for machine storage.  

SACRED HEART CHURCH - Sacred Heart Church is undergoing a significant remodel.

MIDLAND LOFTS - Midland States Bank remodeled their former building downtown into corporate lofts.

J & J VENTURES - J & J Ventures has begun construction on an addition to their headquarters. They are expected to add 50 new jobs. 

HEARTLAND HEALTH FOODS - Heartland Health Foods moved to a larger space next to their old store under new ownership. 

WILD ROSE BOUTIQUE - Wild Rose Boutique remodeled the former Midwest Office Building downtown. 

MODERN FAMILY DINNERS - Modern Family Dinners opened Downtown in the Zehner building.

SIMPLE BLESSINGS BOUTIQUE - Simple Blessing Boutique relocated into the Banker Street side of Chestnut Family Music downtown. 

GOLDEN CORRAL - Golden Corral has begun work on remodeling the former Ryan's building. 

LIVE WELL CENTER - The Live Well Center, including Mika Yoga Studio, opened on Jefferson Avenue. 

STATE FARM INSURANCE - A new State Farm office was constructed along Fayette Avenue

EFFINGHAM AXE THROWING - Effingham Axe Throwing opened at 306 S. Fourth Street.
