The Effingham Fire Department Public Education Division is committed to educating our citizens on fire safety by offering the following services:

  • School Fire Drills conducted annually.
  • Fire Station Tours - call for more information or to schedule a tour.
  • Open House - every October during Fire Prevention Week.
  • Fire Safety Talks geared for our young and senior citizens.
  • Essay Contests for Junior High students – winning essay on fire prevention topic earns student their name on a Fire Truck for a period of one year.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training & Safety Talks at local Businesses, Group Homes, & Assisted Living Facilities.
  • Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention.
  • "Change the Clock – Change Your Battery" Program – reminder to change the battery in your smoke detector.
  • Smoke Detector Program – Every summer we visit local neighborhoods and check/change batteries in smoke detectors and ensure proper placement in the homes.
  • Submit seasonal Fire Safety Tips articles to local news media and the City Newsletter.
  • “Keep the Wreath Red” Program – Every Christmas Holiday wreaths are hung on both fire stations – each adorned with red lights – to raise awareness on the dangers of Christmas tree fires.
