Effingham Designated as NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador

The City of Effingham Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has been officially recognized as a Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassadorby the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), joining a national initiative committed to building community resilience against extreme weather and water events.

The WRN Ambassador designation highlights Effingham’s commitment to preparedness, community safety, and proactive communication during severe weather. As a partner in this initiative, the City EMA will work alongside the National Weather Service and other Ambassadors to promote awareness, provide timely information, and encourage readiness across the community.

“Safety is our top priority,” said Larry Thies, City of Effingham Emergency Management Agency Coordinator. “This designation underscores our ongoing efforts to ensure that our residents, businesses, and visitors are equipped with the resources and information they need to stay safe during severe weather events.”

Through the Weather-Ready Nation program, the City of Effingham will:

  • Share reliable forecasts and safety information from the National Weather Service.
  • Encourage personal preparedness and family emergency planning.
  • Partner with local organizations, schools, and businesses to spread awareness.
  • Support training and outreach programs that strengthen community resilience.

As weather events become increasingly unpredictable and impactful, the City of Effingham remains committed to helping the community be ready, responsive, and resilient.
