Police Telecommunicator/9-1-1 Dispatcher

The City of Effingham Police Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Police Telecommunicator/9-1-1 Operator. This position is full-time, with a minimum starting wage of $23.08/hour, based on experience and training. Increases to a minimum of $25.20/hour after one year of service. Wages incrementally increase as defined by collective bargaining unit agreement. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined pension plan. This posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Duties
• Receives and processes incoming calls for police, fire, and emergency medical services via the 9-1-1 system;
• Maintains radio contact with police, fire, and EMS units;
• Documents all calls and contacts into a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system;
• Operates an array of software and intergovernmental data systems;
• Communicates with the public via telephone and through personal contacts;
• Prioritizes requests for assistance and provides emergency instructions to citizen callers;
• Maintains records, reports, and logs in compliance with regulations and agency policy;
• Other miscellaneous, related duties.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school education or equivalent; three (3) to six (6) months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications
• Twelve (12) or more months of related experience or training
• Certifications in EMD, CPR, LEADS, NIMS, bloodborne pathogens/HAZMAT
