Substitute School Crossing Guards
The City of Effingham is seeking candidates to serve as Substitute School Crossing Guards. Starting wage is $18.00/hour. Employees in this position receive one (1) hour of paid leave for every forty (40) hours of time worked. No other fringe benefits are offered for this position.
Hours of work: Approx. 7:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. & 2:45 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday (when needed)

Duties:
• Assist elementary and junior high school students to safely cross city streets and state highways at designated school crosswalks;
• Monitor vehicle traffic for potential hazards to students;
• Utilize signage to stop vehicles at designated school crosswalks and escort students for safe crossing;
• Use personal judgement and discretion to choose appropriate conditions under which to stop traffic and/or allow students to cross in a safe manner;
• Alert designated city officials and school officials to emergency or special conditions and events.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 21 years of age;
• Ability to effectively communicate with school-aged children;
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
• Ability to stand/walk and hold a sign for several minutes in duration.
