Water Treatment Plant Operator: Class A-D

The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Class A Water Treatment Plant Operator, but will accept the most qualified candidate certified with an operator license from Class A-D. This position is full-time, with a starting wage ranging from $34.59 (Class A) – $29.19 (Class D), based on the level of operator license certification. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract.

Duties:
• Collects samples, conducts lab tests, or orders lab tests to be performed;
• Reads meters, gauges, and dials and keeps logs of readings;
• Regulates water levels in all units;
• Reviews plant log records, gauges, meters and monitors other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and accurately;
• Responds to emergency calls;
• Performs plant maintenance, including repair and overhaul maintenance of equipment on a regular basis, and records data accurately;
• Performs laboratory tasks, conducts required EPA and IEPA tests, orders and applies chemicals, etc.;
• Remains current of professional developments in the field; responsible for sustaining professional development hours to be maintained in accordance with applicable regulations;
• Submits reports to the appropriate agencies, including but not limited to the IEPA;
• Operates the water treatment plant in accordance with current IEPA standards;
• Performs other related duties in coordination with other Divisions of the Public Works Department, as required;

Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree or equivalent from college or technical school;
• Or one (1) – two (2) years related experience and/or training;
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Possess Class B-D WTP Operator License.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree or equivalent from college or technical school;
• Or two (2) – three (3) years related experience and/or training;
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Possess Class A WTP Operator License.
• Experience with Word Office suite.
