The City’s Municipal Electrical Aggregate will end in December, 2025. During this year’s bidding process, the City was unable to secure through the aggregate process a lower rate than Ameren. Residents on the City’s aggregate will automatically return to Ameren at a lower rate.  You still have the option to choose an electrical supplier other than Ameren, within two months, although Ameren will remain your provider.

Get water and sewer service

If you are a renter or property owner, you can get water service connected for $25.

If you are a renter, you will also need to pay a $100 refundable deposit.

Before you start

We process new water connection requests on weekdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you complete the form after 3 p.m., we will process your request the next business day.

What's next

Once water service is connected, you will need to pay your water bill every month. You can also set up automatic payments.

The $25 connection fee will be applied to your first water bill.

If you are a renter, your $100 deposit will be applied to your first water bill.

If you want to connect your irrigation system, call 217-342-2366 or email UtilityBilling@EffinghamIL.com. A $25 sprinkler connection fee will be added to your next bill.
