We've started the public participation phase of our Effingham 2050 Comprehensive Plan project, and we need your help! A focus group meeting will be conducted to discuss all aspects of transportation: public transit, streets, bridges, sidewalks, bicycle paths, traffic control, and the airport on Monday, December 16th at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall (201 E. Jefferson Avenue). We hope you'll attend!

Public Education division

The Effingham Fire Department Public Education Division is committed to educating our citizens on fire safety by offering a variety of services:

  • Annual school fire drills
  • Fire Station tours
  • Fire safety talks, geared for our young and senior citizens.
  • Fire extinguisher training and safety talks at local businesses, group homes, and assisted living facilities.
  • Smoke detector program: we visit neighborhoods in the city to check smoke detectors and ensure proper placement.
  • “Keep the Wreath Red” program: we hang holiday wreaths on both fire stations, each adorned with red lights to raise awareness to the dangers of Christmas tree fires.
