The City’s Municipal Electrical Aggregate will end in December, 2025. During this year’s bidding process, the City was unable to secure through the aggregate process a lower rate than Ameren. Residents on the City’s aggregate will automatically return to Ameren at a lower rate.  You still have the option to choose an electrical supplier other than Ameren, within two months, although Ameren will remain your provider.

Training division

All of the department firefighters are mandated to be certified to the Basic Firefighter level, within one (1) year of appointment. This includes Hazardous Material Awareness. Both full-time and part-time personnel train weekly in order to remain proficient in their individual skills.

Our Training division coordinates all training, including:

  • engine company tactics and strategy
  • truck operations
  • rescue operations
  • fire simulations
  • apparatus operations
  • hazardous materials response, and
  • auto extrication

The training and continuing education programs provided adhere to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Illinois State Fire Marshal Division of Personnel Standards (OSFM), Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL), University of Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI), along with local, state, and federal mandates. These are further supported by the department’s involvement in our MABAS Division's training.

Effingham is also home to the Regional Fire & Police Training Center, where fire and police department personnel train in order to further enhance their "hands on" skills.
