Pesticide application notice

Effective January 1, 2025, the Pesticide Application on Rights-of-Way Notification Act (Public Act 103-0976) requires the City of Effingham to provide written notice of at least 24 hours before any pesticide or herbicide application to public rights-of-way.

This requirement applies to:

  • Roadways and road shoulders
  • Sidewalks and walking paths
  • Utility corridors
  • Storm sewers and drainage areas
  • Other public infrastructure area

Application schedule

Mosquito control spraying is planned for the following dates and times. Each zone will be sprayed weekly, weather permitting.

  • Dates: July 1 - October 15, 2025
  • Time of Application: Between 9:00 pm and 12:00 am
  • Locations:
    • Zone 1 - The area north of Fayette Avenue and west of the Canadian National Railroad.
    • Zone 2 - The area north of Fayette Avenue and east of the Canadian National Railroad, and the area south of Fayette Avenue and east of S. Willow Street.
    • Zone 3 - The area south of Fayette Avenue and west of S. Willow Street.
  • Purpose: Mosquito control and disease outbreak prevention
  • Public Safety: Per the special safety precautions on the product labels, applications will be made in a way that will not contact people or pets, either directly, or through drift. Please avoid the affected area until the sprayed mist dissipates. All products to be used are EPA-registered and can be safely applied in residential areas.
