The Effingham 2050 Comprehensive Plan is in final draft, and available for your review.  Also, a Homestretch Timeline of meetings and objectives has been set.  These meetings are an opportunity for you to express your opinion and ideas about the final draft of the Plan. Projects that don’t require a building permit

While most construction projects in Effingham require a building permit, there are some exceptions. Even if a permit is not required, your project still needs to be inspected and follow all building codes and regulations.

Some projects may still require permits from other agencies or divisions. For example, even if you don’t need a building permit, you may still need plumbing, electrical, or sewer tap permits.

In your yard

Homes and buildings

  • Painting
  • Replacing flooring
  • Installing cabinets
  • Replacing cover plates on outlets and switches

Roofing

We don’t require a permit for roofing or re-roofing, but a permit may be required if the structure (rafters) is affected.

We don’t require roofing companies to register with the City as a contractor. Roofing companies are required to be licensed through the State of Illinois. Verify your roofing company’s license status before you sign any contract.
