The City’s Municipal Electrical Aggregate will end in December, 2025. During this year’s bidding process, the City was unable to secure through the aggregate process a lower rate than Ameren. Residents on the City’s aggregate will automatically return to Ameren at a lower rate.  You still have the option to choose an electrical supplier other than Ameren, within two months, although Ameren will remain your provider.

Special Response Team

Special Response Team (SRT) functions

The Effingham City/County Special Response Team (SRT) is a part-time, multi-jurisdictional team comprised of members of the Effingham Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff's Office, and Altamont Police Department. The members of the SRT also have normal law enforcement duties such as patrol or criminal investigations. The Effingham City/County SRT is a specialized unit that is trained and equipped to handle a variety of situations that require more than just a patrol officer response such as:

  • High-risk warrant service involving narcotics
  • Fugitive apprehension

Each member of the team is a highly skilled and experienced officer who undergoes continuous training to maintain their proficiency and readiness to respond to critical incidents.  Members of the SRT conduct monthly training in:

  • Firearms proficiency
  • Tactical operations and communications
  • Less lethal munitions
  • Search warrant service and executions
  • Active killer situations
  • Defensive tactics
